Are we really so sophisticated? When we eat, don't we still eat pieces of animals that have been killed, crops that have been grown in the Earth, and other foods harvested from natural resources perhaps molded by some culinary blending processes?
Do our shirts, ties and dresses put us a cut above the rest of the world? Aren't our elegant, sophisticated clothes made from the same fabrics that have existed since the beginning of time?
Do we believe that by attaching ourselves so completely to organizations - Greek, employment-based, familial, recreational, spiritual - that they'll become so truly a part of us that when we die, they die as well?
Do we believe that we have the power to change the world, or that the world is destined to fall out and that there's nothing we can do about it? If it's God's will for human beings to die, for the world to come to an end, then all we do to try and preserve life here will be, in the end, fruitless.
So what keeps us going every morning?
Is life but a test, to see how much we can restrain ourselves, or may we indulge in every passion, destroying ourselves completely and fully realizing what it means to be truly broken?
Should we allow ourselves time to sit and dwell on these questions, or is life ultimately about finding what can prevent each of us from wondering too long?
